Benefits with BIM in the Civil Engineering Industry : A Study of the Contractor’s and the Client’s Profits of BIM (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The Swedish civil engineering industry has the lowest level of profit margin since the start of the measuring. The criticism has been fierce and suggestions for improvement have been given. One proposal for improving the efficiency is the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling). This study aims to identify and evaluate the commercial benefits of BIM for clients and contractors in the Swedish civil engineering industry. A survey where the participants have documented experience and extensive knowledge in BIM in construction projects is acting as a platform in the study. A platform that is supported by previous research and it’s results. The benefits are considered to increase after the experience among practitioners will be greater but even now, in an early stage, some actors ascertain the effects of BIM. The results of the study may show that BIM is reducing time, lowering the costs, minimizes the risks and increases the quality. Something that is an advantage when the benefits are to be identified is that the values have been documented, both old values and new values. This is something that doesn’t have been done in any big way.
