Abstract [en]

The quality of the introduction for new employees has an impact on the individual as well as the organization. Previous research and theory regarding introduction often have their main focus on the perspective of the employee and its experienced feelings. Therefore, we conducted a study with an integrated perspective to deepen our knowledge about the collaboration between the individual and the organization during the introduction. We chose to make a qualitative study with focus on IKEA, which is an interesting organization partly because of its size, but mainly because of its famous values and how those might contribute to how they frame their introduction program. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the employee and the organization each contributes to the introduction process and also how the interactions between the parts affects the outcome of the introduction. We used interviews as a method for this qualitative research. To include the integrated perspective, we have done a total of six interviews, whereas two of these were meant to represent the organization and the other four are employees that had recently been employed and gone through the introduction. To get a further understanding of the process we have been using a theoretical framework of among others organizational socialization and tactics and also sensemaking. The result of this study shows that contribution regarding responsibility and engagement to the introduction is a must from both the individual and the organization. We could see that the organizational socialisation process at IKEA starts already at the recruitment day as common values are an essential part.
