Abstract [en]

Dance and movement to music within the subject of PE (physical education) in Sweden is considered complicated and is rather dismissed. Dance is an activity giving the students the opportunity to develop a good bodily ability, which means that a lack of dance is a problem that should be taken seriously. Instead, dance education is characterized by an uncertainty, both among students and teachers. The purpose of this systematic literature review is to investigate what factors can influence dance teaching within the school's walls.

To search for articles for this systematic literature study, the databases ERIC (EBSCO) and SPORTDiscus have been used. The articles have developed through a search strategy that included a three-step selection process, where the headlines were read first, then abstract and finally the entire article. The result presented in this systematic literature study includes a totalof 19 scientific articles, all of which have been analyzed based on the purpose of the study to see what factors can affect dance education within the school's walls.

The result of this systematic literature study shows that there are several clear factors that can influence dance classes in school. The study's results refer to three main factors, "teacher's own experience and attitude,"structured gender patterns," and "the teaching of dance education". Through this systematic literature study it is possible to conclude that performing dance is problematic for the sports teacher and is an area of sport education that is shaped by socially structured gender patterns. It is also possible to conclude that athletes are in need of a greater amount of practical experience and knowledge of dance in order to be able to perform an equivalent education.
