Abstract [en]

Being new at a workplace is something that most people have experienced. It’s not just new tasks and colleagues that a new employee has to relate to, a new employee is also faced with an organizational culture that must be learned to be understood. The introduction has a decisive role in how the new employee will succeed at becoming part of the organization. The introduction is the new employee's first contact with the company and its culture and thereby the start of socialization. Previous research agrees that organizational socialization attaches great importance to a new employment and is a significant way of transferring an organization's culture to new employees. The purpose of this study is to contribute with increased knowledge and in-depth understanding of how new employees are socialized into a corporate culture by means of an introduction to new employment. The present study has applied a qualitative research strategy. This has made it possible to examine the studied people and their experience in relation to their socialization to the company culture.Methodologically, the study is based on a field study of a company's introduction for new employment. The empirical material consists of participatory observations, semistructured interviews and documents. The theoretical frame of reference consists theories of social order and its concepts, organizational socialization and organizational culture. Like previous research, the findings of the present study shows that an introduction is of great importance for the new employee’s socialization into an organizational culture. What we found to be unique to the results of the present study is that an introduction with different forms of learning is a well-functioning condition for new employees to socialize into an organizational culture.
