Abstract [en]

The goal of this essay is to discuss how analysing narration and point of view is a useful resource in the teaching of English literature and film. The thesis is that although the analysis of narration and point of view is not a topic included in the steering documents of the upper secondary school, it is a useful tool to stimulate students to become good citizens. This I establish in the essay with the motivation that the study of narration and point of view gives students the ability to reach requirements in the steering documents such as democratic values, critical thinking and being able to discuss and interact. The essay also includes a comparative analysis of the narration of the novel and the film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
