Abstract [en]

Swedish teachers use read-aloud less and less in school and both children and adults read less for pleasure today than for a couple of years ago. When the read-aloud method is used, it is usually done in Swedish. The purpose of this paper is to examine what effect read-aloud in English has on students. My aim is to explore if students can find motivation to read by listening to books read by teachers. To do this I did a descriptive literature study where relevant studies on the subject were identified and then analyzed. In my study I found that read-aloud can increase the students’ vocabulary, syntax and motivation to learn English.Read-aloud has many advantages but is still not often used in English since many teachers lack the skills to feel comfortable enough to do so.
