Abstract [en]

Alexander Leonardsson (2016). IKT och språkutveckling – En studie om hur man kan använda IKT för språkutveckling (ICT and language development – A study on how to use ICT for language development). Independent Project, Swedish, Specialization in Grades 4-6, Second Cycle, 15 Credits, School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.

According to the Swedish National Agency for Education, research shows that language is the main tool for learning other subjects. The purpose of this study is to see how teachers can help students develop language with the help of ICT. Many teachers believe that ICT is a useful tool in the classroom, while a recent study by the National Agency for Education shows that many students are disturbed by the new technology in the classroom. To answer my questions in this study, I have analyzed a number of blogs. These blogs are all written by teachers who work in primary school (grades 3-9), and all these teachers have all somehow integrated ICT in their teaching. By analyzing these blogs I tried to see if there are any indications that ICT promotes the language development of students. Many of these teachers were positive about using ICT in their teaching, but the result of my study does not clearly indicate that all the students in a classroom would benefit from ICT. No teacher in this study even mentioned the concept of language development. By researching relevant literature and by the analysis of these blogs you can see in this study that the only students that clearly benefit of ICT in the classroom are students in need of special support, and newly arrived students. There is no evidence that ICT could benefit all students.
