Abstract [en]
This study examines the use of activity-based workplaces in politically-managed organizations. The purpose of this paper is to examine how activity-based workplaces affect the quality of political administrative systems. The study will try to identify the possible consequences that this way of working has on how the officials perform their work, with a focus on objectivity and effectivity. Furthermore, the study will try to assess the significance of these consequences for the policy process. The focus of this essay is Kungsbacka municipality.
The central questions asked are:
• In what ways does having an activity-based workplace affect the quality of politically-managed organizations?
- What are the consequences of an activity-based approach on how officials perform their work, with a focus on objectivity and effectivity?
- What significance does these consequences have for the policy process?
The study uses a qualitative method, where the empirical material was collected through semi-structured interviews and material from an internal survey.
The main conclusion that we can point out is that activity-based workplaces promote the objective and effective handling of officers' assignments, thus affecting the quality positively in Kungsbacka municipality. Furthermore, the consequences of objectivity are of importance to the policy process. Regarding the consequences of effectivity, it is not possible to determine whether the effectiveness is significant for the policy process.
