Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study examined if there are any gender difference between men and women regarding why they choose not to report a crime. A total of 265 individuals participated in an online survey, of which n= 108 (40.8%) were men, and n=157 (59.2%) were women. The age distribution was 18 to 78 years (m=30.5, SD=11.4). Significantly more women than men did not report abuse because they felt ashamed, worried of negative reactions, and they did not want to see themselves as victims. Significantly more women than men did not report threats because they felt ashamed. The conclusion is that there are different reasons as to why men and women choose not to report a crime.
