Conflicts between co-workers could affect the whole workplace. Although the main view is that they are damaging, there are some conflicts that generate favourable outcomes. The purpose of this study is to increase appreciation for the experience of conflict among serving staff. Prior research has had a quantitative approach to this area, aiming to find a relation between different types of conflict and staff performance or well-being. This study has captured the serving staff’s experience regarding intragroup conflict by using a qualitative method. Using theories about power, communication, sensemaking and organizational culture we analysed the empirical findings. Results show that the communication is of high importance when employees solve conflicts and create sense. The results also show that intragroup conflicts worsen the workplace atmosphere and in some cases the percieved work performance.
