This is a study concerning internal communication and leadership at IKEA Örebro. We chose to do a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) on written text from the warehouse director. The choice to make the study through CDA was grounded in our interest in exploring meaning and employee relations created through language. We also share an interest in leadership in organizations, which was why we made the choice of analyzing how implicit meanings within leadership are created. Using different analytical tools with linguistic origins we analyzed the texts to see which word choices made what with the internal communication, leadership and power relations. The material consists of 19 letters from the leader to the employees at IKEA. The conclusion from our study indicates the importance of good internal communication and how different linguistic choices can have other consequences than was thought. The analysis also shows that the linguistic choices that the department store manager makes many times affects her leadership negatively and that communication from her is lacking in clarity. This study has contributed with research for the internal communication and leadership field, more specifically for IKEA Örebro as an organization.
