Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Immigration is a topical topic, especially after the refugee crisis in 2015. The purpose of this study was to investigate gender differences in tolerance levels, as well as what factors predicted tolerance to immigration. A total of 124 university students participated in the study, of which 85 were women. In a survey, four main factors were investigated into tolerance: economics, allowing people from outside, education, culture / social interactions. The results showed a higher level of tolerance in women, all major factors exhibited high tolerance levels and the economic factor predicted most to tolerance. Theory of planned behavior (TPB) was used to explain the tolerance level, which is partly due to the fact that university students' social world includes other cultures and contributes to a positive image of immigration. The study showed an interest in studying attitudes towards immigration, especially in today's society, where it is constantly blowing up debates on this topic.
