Abstract [en]

Today’s labour market is subject to more flexible working conditions than before. As a result of the information technology’s growth, individuals today have the opportunity to work anytime and anywhere. Thus, this situation requires the individual to be able to separate private life from work life in a much greater way. This kind of work model brings both negative and positive consequences.

Further, this study investigates estate agents and how they perceive their working conditions. This with the purpose of examining a few chosen estate agents and how these individuals perceive and handle flexible working models. The study’s question formulation proceeds from the definition of the concept boundless work, how estate agents separate work life from private life and what consequences there will be on work life and private life when being integrated with each other.

Previous research that will be presented focuses on a new stress related vicarious traumatization which exists on the labour market today, the growing impact of information technology and the psychological and social consequences of boundless work. Further, the information technology is believed to be the main driving force for boundless work because it allows unlimited work as to time and space. The study is based on qualitative interviews performed with three working estate agents. All respondents show signs that they are affected differently by the boundless work their profession amounts to. The result shows both positive and negative effects of boundless work.

The result of the study shows whether estate agents are inclined to handle a satisfying demarcation between work life and private life, what strategies are used to accomplish this and how sensemaking in work can be a crucial factor in this sense. The result also shows that work experience helps estate agents deal with their working conditions.
