How to sort out undesired bars (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The project has been carried out at Ovako Hällefors. More specifically, their medium-rolling mill. After the bars are rolled to the desired dimension, they cool down for a time and then they get cut to the desired customer length. After cutting, the bars are transported to pockets where they are bundled. Some bars differ in length and level of straightness. Currently, they are sorted out manually. A time-consuming process since the bundles must be opened and the bars that differ are sorted out.

The company had the desire to sort these bars out already in the existing production line. The project has investigated and developed two concepts on how a solution to the problem may look.

A design process has laid the foundation for the project, including: preliminary study, analysis, idea generation and conceptualization. Where methods such as participant observation, brainstorming, selection matrices and calculating dimension has played a key role.

The project resulted in two concepts, one based on process development and one product development.
