Abstract [en]

Abstract

Representation on film shapes the way we se the world and by doing so it also shapes our actions in life in the long run. The main goal with this study is to analyse how black characters are represented in the two films Hotel Rwanda (2004) and Last King of Scotland (2006). Using Frantz Fanons post-colonial theories both movies are examined to see how the colonial past has affected the characters. The characters and the conflict are then put against an analysis of the historical contextualisation the movies makes. This is to see if the representation of the characters and the conflicts is one with logical explanation and reasons or if the movies fall back on the stereotype image of Africa as a continent of conflict and meaningless violence.
