The aim of this paper is to survey the participation in the political debate on political blogs. In comparing a group of politicians with a group of non politicians we search to answer which group is more likely to: A) write comments on political blogs, B) have their own political blog, and C) read political blogs. To gain a deeper understanding we also study the attitudes towards blogs as a political forum. To answer these questions a survey questionnaire method and two focus group interviews has been combined. The theories of the paper concern the definition of democracy, the deliberative discussion on the internet and the public sphere. The results show that the political debate on blogs is executed mainly by the politicians. The non-readers of political blogs state that political blogs fail to attract their attention and therefore they have no acknowledgment of these blogs. Both groups have similar attitudes towards blogs as a forum for political debate, hence that a development of the blog away from its present form is seen as necessary. As expected, the non politicians have a more critical attitude towards political blogs than the politicians.
