3D Printing med pappersmassa
Örebro University, School of Science and Technology.
2019 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesisAlternative title
3D Printing with paper pulp (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis work was to evaluate state of the art for the paper industry combined with 3D Printing. The work also investigated if it would be possible to produce a structure with additive manufacturing by using paper pulp without any additives or chemicals.

The applied research method for this study combined a literature review and study to systematically find relevant literature within the field. This was combined with laboratory tests. The main purpose of this thesis work was, however, to study and review literature within the field. The results showed that:

  • Paper can and has developed to become a useable material within the 3D Printing industry.
  • Paper fiber in combination with 3D Printing may become relevant where “4D Printing” might be handy. 4D Printing is basically 3D Printing but with structures whose characteristics vary over time.
  • Research in this area needs to go further as there are too little research done. This may or may not have affected the results of this project.

For future work, more research is needed within the field. Research whether other 3D Printing methods like stereolithography or selective laser sintering are applicable with paper pulp or fiber as material. The method used in this project was an extrusion based method which most research studies also have used.
