Abstract [en]

Men’s violence against women is an extensive social problem as you can find in every category of social classes. In the past years both researchers and media has noticed the abused woman’s situation. In the year 2000 the government established a council of woman’s peace. This council criticized the fact that abused women who at the same time has an addiction to drugs, have no place to go and they are not regarded as victims of crime in the same way none addiction women have.

In this study we try to illustrate how women experience violence from a man they live or lived together with when they at the same time has an addiction to alcohol and drugs. We needed very detailed and complete information and therefore a qualitative method was used concerned five women. This method gave us a general picture from the situation we wanted to study.

The analyse was executed by so-called concentration and the empirical material was adapted into stories. The stories was then analysed from the theory of normalisation and other social psychological theories.

The results of the analyse shows that the women are characterized by their childhood and the violence has caused them posttraumatic symptoms. The women concede, by some reason, they have been treated friendly during the occasions they were looking for community help.

This could be explained by something like “living on an island” culture.
