Abstract [en]

Today there is an increased interest in understanding how organizations are gendered, which

this study is based on, and the aim is to investigate how teachers in social science relate to the

fact that the school is gendered. Through interviews, the study responds to how teachers

express their awareness about that the school organization is gendered, how they express that

it is and whether they have strategies to adapt to it. The study is based on a theoretical starting

point about gendered organizations with Joan Acker (1990) at the forefront. The main results

of the study show that women are more aware of that the school organization is gendered than

men. It also shows that gender structures are seen on several levels, horizontally, vertically

and internally. Finally, it also shows that teachers' individual adaptations differ as no clear

pattern could be found, which may be due to too few respondents.
