Abstract [en]

Nowadays people in a love relationship are bound to maneuver technology in their everyday life. It creates new patterns in the structure of how love relationships work. This qualitative interview study aims at investigating how couples in a love relationship experience how the interaction between them is affected by mobile phone use. Moreover, this study will focus on whether couples have created strategies for how they use their mobile phones when they are together with their partner or not.

Previous research of how the mobile phone use affects people in love relationships have revealed that the mobile phone can have a negative impact on the love relationship. The main core of this study is the time that couple spend together, that could be disturbed by the presence of the mobile phone. The result from this study will be analysed through sociological theories from, Hartmunt Rosa, Anthony Giddens and Eva Illouz.

The result of this study does indicate that mobile phone use could disturb the interaction between some love relationships. However, some individuals in the love relationships were not affected by the mobile phone, either because they use their mobile phone as much as their partner or because they both did not use it while interacting with each other. Therefore, some of the respondents had invented strategies for dealing with the mobile phone use. While some respondents simply forgot about the mobile phone when spending time together with their partner.
