Abstract [en]

The expanding digitalization in today's society affects citizens' everyday life in multiple ways. This expanding digitalization creates new ways for people to communicate but also brings with it a range of internet-related crimes such as cyberstalking. Cyberstalking has not been studied in relation to personality traits in victimization. With this in mind the purpose of this study was to examine whether there is a correlation between victimization and personality traits according to the big five model. To answer the study's purpose and question regarding how this potential relationship looks like five hypotheses were formulated. The study has used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The data were collected through a web-based questionnaire and the questions were designed to measure victimization of cyberstalking as well as the personality traits. The method used to select the sample was a convenience sample among university students. The result of the study showed that the model of personality traits were significant towards being victimized by cyberstalking and could explain 17,4% of the total variance explained in victimization of cyberstalking. Further the result showed that two of the personality traits, extraversion and neuroticism, independently showed a significant correlation with being victimized by cyberstalking.
