This essay aims to analyze how the Finnish newspaper Arbetarbladet portrayed Josef Stalin and Adolf Hitler by their position of power as dictators during the period 1942-1944 in World War II. The following questions, which this essay aimed to answer are: Do totalitarian tendencies appear when Arbetarbladet are reporting about Stalin and Hitler and their power? Did Arbetarbladet express any concern towards Stalin and Hitler and their regimes? In order to answer these questions, a qualitative text analysis will be done on Arbetarbladets publications between 1942-1944. The theory of totalitarianism is used to analyze Arbetarbladet and determine if there are any totalitarian tendencies in what the newspaper were writing correlated to Stalin and Hitler. The analysis presents examples of how Arbetarbladet has reported about actions of Stalin and Hitler, that resembles totalitarian tendencies. The analysis also presents examples of occasions where Arbetarbladet are expressing their concerns towards mostly Stalin and his regime than Hitler.
