Semcon är ett teknikkonsultföretag som bedriver flera olika sorters projekt. Att utföra ett projekt mot ett fast pris, kallat fastprisprojekt, är vanligt förekommande hos Semcon. Innan projektstartmåste krav och andra uppgifter angående projektet samlas in för att möjliggöra att projektet utförs med rätt förutsättningar. För att samla denna information görs en förstudie, vilken kan vara avgörande för om projekt lyckas. Examensarbetet avsåg att undersöka hur Semcon utför sitt förstudiearbete genom att undersöka deras framgångsfaktorer och utvecklingsområden. För att undersöka detta gjordes enlitteratursökning för att se hur en lyckad förstudie genomförs enligt litteraturen. Detta följdes sedan av att en nulägesbeskrivning av Semcons förstudiearbete togs fram. Nulägesbeskrivningen utfördes i tre steg, först en dokumentstudie tillsammans medobservation, följt av en fallstudie och till sist en intervjustudie där sex personer från Semcons kontor i Örebro intervjuades. Från dessa tre steg identifierades 14 framgångsfaktorer vilka besvarade den första frågeställningen. Exempel på framgångsfaktorer var: God planering, rutiner och mallar, gemensamma mål för alla inblandade och öppen inställning. Faktorerna betygssattes baserat på uppfyllnadsgrad, och faktorerna med lägst betyg benämndes som utvecklingsområden. Utifrån betygssättningen identifierades fem utvecklingsområden, vilka framställdes besitta den största utvecklingspotentialen, vilka även besvarade den andra frågeställningen. Exempel på utvecklingsområden var: Rutiner och mallar, platsbesök hos kund av projektledare och konstruktör och låta förstudiearbetet ta sin tid.Utifrån examensarbetet presenterades förslag på fortsatt arbete för att öka andelen lyckade projekt i framtiden. Utifrån arbetet rekommenderas Semcon att undersöka de identifierade utvecklingsområdena närmare och utifrån dessa se över hur de kan utveckla deras verksamhet ytterligare. Ett annat förslag på fortsatt arbete är att undersöka hur andra Semcon kontor utför förstudier i projekt, med syftet att kontoren kan dra lärdom och inspireras av varandra.

Semcon is a technology consulting company that conducts multiple different types of projects. To conduct a project for a set price is called a fixed price project and is a type of project that Semcon conducts frequently. Before work can begin, requirements and other information regarding the project must be collected to have the opportunity to carry out the project with the correct outset. To gather this information a feasibility-study is done and is of major importance for the project to be executed correctly and succeed. This report intends to investigate how Semcon carries out their feasibility-study. This will be investigated by looking at their factors of success and areas of development in their feasibility-study work.These areas where found by first conducting a search within available literature to find out how the literature considers how a feasibility-study is properly correctly. This was then followed by carrying out a description of the current status of Semcon's feasibility studies in three steps.First, a document study and observation, followed by a case study and finally an interview study where 6 people at Semcon's Örebro office were interviewed.From these 3 steps, 14 success factors were compiled, and these acted as the answer to the first question of the report. Examples of success factors were: Good planning, routines and templates, common goals for everyone involved and Open mind. The next step in the method was to produce a 1-5 rating scale where all factors were compared to each other and rated. Based on the grading, there were 5 factors that received the lowest grade, 3, and these were then chosen as development areas and answers to the second question. Examples of development areas were: Routines and templates, on-site visits to the customer by the project manager and designer and letting the preliminary study work take its time.The recommended further work based on this report is for Semcon to investigate the development areas and delve into how it is possible to work based on them. Another recommendation for further work is to investigate the feasibility study's success factors in other project operations or industries.
