In this essay we study the teaching material Champ 4-6, commercial coursebooks. These books are primarily for the teaching of English as a second, or foreign, language for the years 4, 5 and 6 in Swedish compulsory school. The study we did was a teaching material analysis of the textbook and workbook which led us to having six books to analyse. The main goal of this analysis was to reveal the distribution between the number of assignments in these books and what these assignments test the pupils on according to the Swedish curriculum. With this analysis, we also looked at how this teaching material worked with digital tools and if it could fulfil the directives from Swedish Agency for Education about digital competence. Our findings shows that Champ 4-6 is a valid choice of teaching material when looking at the course plan for English in the Swedish curriculum. When looking at the digital assignments in the workbooks, we discovered that the pupils' digital competence is not being very well trained in these books and they do not teach the pupils about many of the important parts which the curriculum (Lgr22, 2022) demands in digital competence. This leads to the discussion of how digital tools could work in the context of Champ 4-6 with the help of scientific articles. We conclude that the workbook could benefit with more digital tools depending on the type of assignment.
