Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine the students' experience of violence while growing up, experiences of violence in their relationships, and the relationship between. A quantitative survey was conducted at Örebro University with one hundred students. The dataset was analyzed in SPSS and reported in tables. The results showed that students to some extent experienced violence while growing up, as well as in their own relationships. The most common type of violence was a threat of physical violence, and violence in the form of pushing, restraint or being lagged. A significant correlation existed where male respondents indicated that they as children were victims of violence and that they later on exposed there partner to violence. The study also showed that students reported that both parties in the relationship were jealous against each other and to some extent controlling. The results were analyzed and in a subsequent discussion, linking it with previous research on the subject. The authors argued, as well as the previous research showed that it was difficult to answer the question why some children develop a norm-breaking behaviour. They emphasize the importance of ensuring a holistic approach where there are many different factors behind the development of violent behaviour.
