Abstract [en]

When a new law is accepted, there can be problems in an organization. When the new capital adequacy law, Basel II, where introduced this problem probably emerged. Therefore it was interesting to analyze how the coupling was in the bank we decided to study. We analyzed if the organization were loosely coupled, decoupled or tightly coupled when it comes to risk management. The three types of coupling are very different and infer how well the local offices follow the headquarters directions.

The purpose with the paper is to describe the coupling between Swedbanks headquarters and the local offices. We did this by analyzing how well the local offices follow the directions from the headquarters and how Swedbank handle the risks the bank is faced with.

The conclusions we have drawn is that the local offices follows directions and uses risk management systems created by Swedbanks headquarters. Even if there are some space for those who work in the local offices to make own decisions, we have established that the coupling mostly is tight in Swedbank when it comes to risk management. We have also seen some types of tightly- and loosely couplings between the headquarters and the local offices.
