En Studie om Online Spel och Svenska Tonåringar (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

Playing online games has become a popular activity among youngsters. This one-shot-survey study explores (a) the individual psychological characteristics of online players, (b) the reasons for playing online games and (c) online players’ relationship with friend in terms of friendship quality and number of friends. The results suggest that online players are neither shy nor depressive. They score high on sensation seeking and self-esteem and aggression. Youths play online games mainly for entertainment reasons and for contacting friends. Online players and non-players do not differ with non-players is terms of number of real friends. Players’ friendship quality seems to be poor, though.
