Abstract [en]

Abstract

The aim with this essay is to examine how the grade question can be discussed in relation to the social band that exists between teacher and student, seen from a student perspective. The area of intrest aims towards students’ views about their relationship to the teacher, and its impact on their assessment. Considering the essay aim, the Phenomenographic theory will be used with interviews as a method. The starting point is an understanding of the social band between teachers and students and that this is an important and natural part of the students’ school time. This social band also influences the grade subsidence both aware and unaware, direct or indirect. This is according to earlier studies done by, among others, Aspelin (1999) and Korp (2003, 2006), whose results are important to this essay. The interviewed students are of the age 16 or older and were interviewed in pairs. The results shows that students feel that a strong social band to the teacher gives them a better classroom-climate, and that this can increase their intrest in the subject. According to the students, this can influence the grades and thereby also their future prospects. Several students mentioned the weight of humour in their relationship to the teacher. Students mean that the social band between themselves and the teachers are important, but that it´s not of central importance in the grade process. Furthermore they say that they are not afraid of risking this relationship when they are dissatisfied of their grades.
