Onset of age of antisocial behavior : A staff perspective on institutional treatment of young people from risk- and protective profiles (English)
Abstract [en]

Normbreaking behavior is a concept that includes several types of behavior that in any way deviates from society´s norms and values. Research has shown that there are differences in how a normbreaking behavior is evolved. This depends on the age at which a behavior was established, and which of the risk- and protective factors that can form the basis of behavior. This study aims to examine what kind of normbreaking behavior that is commonly occurring in a treatment institution according to the staff. Furthermore, the study aims to investigate how age of onset influenced the behavior of young people at the institution. In terms of risk- and protective factors, the study also investigates if these in any way affected the behaviour, and how these form the basis of which type of treatment the institution is working on. The study also investigates to which extent personalized care is used which is based on the youth´s risk- and protective profiles. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The interview guide has been designed based on the research and literature that the authors has used in order to create a relevance in the questions. The study shows that there are differences in the extent of behavior depending on the timing which the development occurred. The adolescents with early debut in childhood usually have more established behaviors in comparison with the young people who made their debut as teenagers. When the youth is placed on Sundbo are implemented investigations of risk- and protective profiles – which form the basis for an individualized treatment plan. Furthermore, the result shows that the more risk factors that is present in the youth´s life, the greater the risk of debut in normbreaking behavior, and it may relate to youth´s own behavior, family situation, and socialization.
