Abstract [en]

The Newspaper Industry is undergoing a digital transformation in which the Internet, mobileservices, e-papers and e-services are threatening the traditional ways to produce and distribute news. The rapid development of digital media has led to declining Journal editions and declining advertising revenues for newspapers. This in turn leads to a radical need for adaptation of the newspapers in which organizations could be forced to reschedule its entire strategy, product development and restructure the entire organization.

Purpose of this thesis is to try to describe how the Swedish newspapers Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens Nyheter respond to competition from the emerging digital media in a strategic way. The study is a comparative study and to answer the purpose of the study we have selected a qualitative approach. The study included a total of two interviews conducted in two Swedish newspaper companies.

The study showed the selected enterprises are taking account of digital technology's advance. There were both similarities and differences in their strategic work in the reception of digital technology's advance. The main difference between the selected companies is their vision of the digital evolution.
