Psychotherapists experience of beeing depressed (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

All with personal experience of depressive symptoms by which they sought treatment for. The study has a qualitative approach and was analysed by IPA. The study reveald descriptions of a psychotherapist role which was about beeing self-sacrificing, able and mentaly healthy. Help seeking was complicated by the fact that this went agsinst the idea of the psychotherapist role. Help seeking also ment beeing at risk of encounter patients, colleagues and acquaintances. Psychoherapists was also expected to act in a professional role as a patient. To undergo therapy was complicated by professional skills. Both to faciliate and to destroy the therapeutis process. Most inportant in the therapy room was to be able to accept the role as a patient. Beeing depressed as a psychotherapist was a burden. Different strategies were used in order to continue working. Patients and psychotherapist sufferd. Having gone through a depression could do the psychotherapist role good.
