Abstract [en]

Facebook is the social medium that is mainly used today, although there is not much research yet about how it affects the social life. However there is a lot of research about Internet use in relation to the social life. This study aims on the basis of a qualitative interview study of a few Facebook users to discuss two contradictory theories in the previous research about Internet’s influence on social life, that says that Internet either leads to social isolation from the real life or that it can be seen as a supplement to communication in the real life. To see which of the two theories that are most relevant for today’s social medium Facebook.
