Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The main goal with this study is to examine if there are any qualitative differences in the use of coping strategies in adults with and without ADHD. Prior research shows that adults with ADHD have a tendency to use avoidance strategies when faced with stressful situations as compared to individuals without ADHD. The participants consisted of six individuals, of which half have been diagnosed with ADHD. The results show that the participants with ADHD more frequently use avoidance strategies to a greater extent than those without the diagnosis, who used a more direct action, problem focused coping. There were no differences in the use of emotion focused coping. In the conclusion it is discussed how the results may be due to an interaction between environmental factors, previous experiences and personality, and that ADHD can influence the coping process and the choice of coping strategies.
