Denna studie syftar till att undersöka socialarbetarens erfarenheter och upplevelser av att arbeta med barnperspektivet i samtal med familjehemsplacerade barn, samt hur socialsekreterare hanterar problem då barnets röst går emot barnets bästa. Studien avser också att undersöka vilka kvalifikationer som krävs för att samtala med barn utifrån deras profession. För att besvara studiens syfte har kvalitativa intervjuer genomförts med fyra barnhandläggare som arbetar med familjehemsplacerade barn. Studien visar att respondenterna inte använder sig av en uttalad metod när de samtalar med barn. Istället betonas vikten av att bygga en förtroendefull relation till barnet. En aspekt som åskådliggörs är svårigheterna med att lyssna till små barn. Det framkommer att observationer är vanligt förekommande då det anses att små barn inte kan tala. Vidare visar studien att barns möjlighet att påverka sin situation är mycket liten om socialsekreteraren anser att barnets röst står i konflikt med barnets bästa. Ett problem är varför vissa signaler om barns mående inte uppmärksammas och vad det innebär att lyssna till barnets röst när magkänslan säger att något inte stämmer. En viktig slutsats i studien är att livserfarenhet är en viktig kvalifikation för att kunna samtala med barn. Faktorer som nämns är ålder, egna barn och erfarenheter av mänskliga relationer.

This study aims to investigate social worker’s experiences of working with the child’s perspective in conversations with children placed in foster homes, and also how social workers deal with problems when the child’s opinion goes against what the social worker believes is the best for the child. The study also intends to examine the qualifications required for speaking with children based on their profession. To answer the study’s purpose, qualitative interviews were conducted with four social workers who works with children placed in foster homes. The study shows that the respondents do not use an explicit method when speaking with children. Instead, the importance of building a trusting relationship with the child is underlined. One aspect which is illustrated is the difficulty of listening to young children. It appears that observations are commonly found because it is considered that young children can’t speak. The study also shows that children’s ability to influence their situation is very small if the social worker believes the child’s opinion is in conflict with what the social worker believes is the best for the child. A problem appears when some of the child’s signals is not noticed. Question is what it means to listen to the child’s opinion then the gut feeling says that something is not right. An important conclusion of the study is that life experience is an important qualification to be able to speak with children. Factors mentioned are age, having children of their own and experience of human relationships.
