Exposure based treatment and mindfulness for IBS-patients administered individually face-to-face – a pilot study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

We lack effective treatment for one of the most common diseases in the world; Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. The aim of this pilot study Is to study the effects of an cognitive-behavioral therapeutic treatment that focuses on exposure and mindfulness. 5 patients with IBS took part in a 6 week long individual therapeutic treatment. The treatment results vary between individuals. The results also show a heterogeneous patient group. The variation between subjects indicates that a single theoretic model is not enough to understand the disease and a single treatment will probably not be efficient for all patients. The question that needs to be addressed is therefore not which treatment is effective for IBS, but rather what treatments are efficient for what patients.
