The purpose of this study was to examine school counselors’ attitudes towards heteronormativity. The study is based on qualitative interviews with five school counselors, one counselor that works at a middle school and four that work at senior high schools. The conclusion of this study is that the counselors both have heteronormative- and queer- influenced attitudes, and that the counselors have different opinions when it comes to the question whether reflection and knowledge is important regarding heteronormativity. The counselors who are more open to reflection and increased knowledge regarding heteronormativity are the counselors who tend to have more queer-influenced attitudes. There is lack of research regarding school counselors in general and specifically when linked to heteronormativity. This this study might contribute new knowledge in this research area.
