    Abstract [en]

Which knowledge is most important in the completion of innovative processes? In which contexts does such knowledge develop? The combination of an in-depth case study, theory and reasoning formed the platform from which conclusions could be drawn. One conclusion is that the strategic knowledge necessary for innovation not only concerns technology. It is rather about business intelligence, funding, marketing and other non-technical areas. Moreover, the production and development of frontline knowledge and research is not the sole province of universities. In many areas, companies are far ahead of universities. Both conclusions differ from the assumptions in mainstream innovation literature. © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Simon's theorem reconsidered: towards a theoretical framework for competitive intelligence2009In: ECIS 2009: third European competitive intelligence symposium / [ed] M. Hoppe, K. Solberg-Soilen, S. Hamrefors, Västerås: Mälardalens högskola , 2009, p. 49-60Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The departure of this article is what I call Simon's theorem. In Administrative Behaviour from 1945, Herbert Simon presented a dilemma that later paved the way to a theory that gave him the Nobel Prize. The core of his theorem is that economic agents are not rational due to lack of information and lack of interpretation capability. The theorem is powerful, but in this article I put forward critique. The essence of this critique is that Simon's theorem can be interpreted as a perspective in which lack of information is taken as a given fact. In reality information could be added by means of active searching or as a result of external information push that reach the entrepreneurial agents. One question that remains is what kind of information is important for entrepreneurs. Paradigms on that will be discussed. Besides the theoretical discussion this article includes a case study: The Arn case.

Towards a new perspective on innovation: with empirical inspiration from creation of an opera scene2008In: The 13th International Conference on Thinking Norrköping, Sweden June 17–21, 2007 / [ed] Lars Taxén, Linköping: Linköping University Electronic Press , 2008, p. 59-65Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study is about innovation in a non-technical context. The case deals with the transformation of a lime quarry into an opera scene. Innovators can break free from common thinking styles. However, rethinking something is not enough for making innovation happen. Innovation is not only about creativity. Transforming thinking to the act of physical creation is s also needed. Innovation is a new thing or concept, which also enter society. In most cases this means success on the market. Therefore innovative processes are interwoven with marketing.

The cleantech mystery: new theoretical model for understanding export capabilities in small and mediumsized innovative cleantech companies2011Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Observers argue that Swedish cleantech companies are excellent at technology, but lackin making business and creating export. We call this the cleantech mystery. Twoimportant questions are what creates export capabilities, and what are the barrierscleantech companies face when exporting viewed from different perspectives? Wesuggest a holistic model for understanding the export conditions of innovative cleantechcompanies at micro and macro levels. The model relies on foundations from fourdifferent theoretical views, and two case studies. The first case is United Stirling(related to Kockums and FFV in Linköping) and its spin-offs. We focus on the dream tocreate sun-powered engines that in turn generate electricity. The second case is theAerosoltrapTM illustrating a creative inventor and his struggle with commercialization. The result is a tentative model, as well as some critical notions regarding the cleantechmystery. Keywords: Cleantech, Innovation, Export, Capabilities, Market orientation,Stirling engines, Aerosoltrap.
