    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

The problem-area studied in the present thesis concerns pianistic technique, with special reference to the possibilities of enhancing the efficiency of pianistic practice and increasing the awareness of chosen strategies of practice. The main aim of the thesis was to develop, on the basis of literature and praxis, a model for the systematic analysis and solution of problems of pianistic technique, as a tool to realize musical intentions. In accordance with this aim, it seemed fruitful to take advantage of knowledge from a number of relevant disciplines (regarding for example, prerequisites for pianistic technique and the practical solution of musical and pianistic problems). Hereby the work has obtained an inter-disciplinary character. General Systems Theory and Systems Analysis were applied as theoretically and methodologically unifying bases, respectively. It may be pointed out that in the field of systems analysis a number of useful descriptive techniques have been developed and become well-established. These techniques and a specially designed model have been applied, partly to the musical structures which are dealt with both from a level-related and a block/line-related systems perspective, partly to the solution of problems of pianistic technique. In the latter case inter- as well as intra-musical factors are considered. To test and evaluate the special model it has been applied to Chopin’s 12 Etudes, Op. 25, and an artistic illustration of the results of this application has been given, partly through the playing of a piano concerto on stage and partly in the form of a DVD-recording. The suggested approach and the special model have proved suitable for organizing pianistic practice and for realizing musical intentions. It has proved possible: to develop a model for the systematic analysis and solution of problems of pianistic technique, as a tool to realize musical intentions; to apply this model to Chopin’s 12 Etudes, Op. 25; to give an artistic illustration of the results of this application, partly through the playing of a piano concerto on stage and partly in the form of a DVD-recording.

"Is pluralism in vocal register designations a problem or not?": A study to highlight problems and opportunities with varied voice register narratives.2023Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to gain an overview of the prevailing vocal register vocabulary in Sweden today and to examine how the existing pluralism has a positive or negative impact. There is currently a diverse narrative surrounding vocabulary, and new vocal discourse trends have influenced the conversation about vocal register terminology. The vocabulary taught in higher music education will shape future narratives, prompting the question of whether voice instructors at academies of music believe that the wide range of vocabulary can influence vocal instruction and which discourses these instructors consider relevant.

Motivutveckling inom improvisation: En studie i improvisation som bygger på motivutveckling och bearbetning av tematiskt material2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

I gränslandet mellan not och ton: - notbilden i nykomponerad musik2006Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis is about the interaction between composition, notation and interpretation and what occurs between the fields with an extended notation.

The purpose of my thesis is to examine the possibilities to

thoroughly describe and map the sounding samples through composition prototypes.

The thesis has a qualitative approach, and the empirical material consists of different documents about notation and from interviews with musicians and students about the instruments used in the thesis.

It also consists of 17 compositions recorded at Örebro University School of Music as an appendix.

The analysis shows that the context in which the symbols are found, play an important role in performing them. It also shows that the performers are rooted in a traditional way of performing.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The article's goals are to contribute to the clarification of the term aesthetic experience used in the context of music education, and to discuss different interpretations of Kant in this context. As the musical aesthetic experience may be said to be at the core of music education, it should be of vital interest to music education research to clarify the term. Usage of this term in some Nordic literature confirms the impression of a strong influence by Anglo-American thinking at the expense of German ideas and discussions in the last decades. The article reveals how different understandings of the term in the Anglo-American and German fields, respectively, give rise even to contradictory statements concerning the meaning and implications of the term. Keywords: Aesthetic experience, music education, philosophy
