Currently, there is an unstable time, with ongoing wars and conflicts around the world. The media is daily providing news with information about the different conflicts. Therefore, students may become affected which raises questions regarding the responsibilities for teachers. The aim of this study is therefore to examine what pedagogical and ethical considerations social studies teachers make in its teaching including news concerning current wars and conflicts. The research questions of this study are if, why, and how social science teachers use news about the war between Russia and Ukraine and the conflict between Israel and Palestine in teaching. To find the answers to the research questions, five qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted. The theoretical framework used is Davies ten typologies of different approaches how teachers teach about war and conflicts. The study finds that teachers incorporate news about both the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the middle east in its teaching, primally when it aligns with the already planned content of the lecture. The study also finds that teachers does not only include the news in the teaching but also provide the students with historical knowledge. The aim of implementing news about the war and the conflict for the teachers is to build democratic and critical citizens. Teachers mostly uses positive approaches when including news about the war and conflict in the teaching, however, they include negative approaches as well.
