The Michelangelo CCL Label International Wine Awards

Judging procedures

   1. Wines will be judged in accordance with the variety or type (the class) to which it belongs.

   2. The OIV 100 point system is used and medals are awarded as follows:

   3. Entries which have received, during the tasting and for each class, a number of determined points in accordance with the methodology for distribution of medals, are awarded the following: Gran d’Or (double gold)

      Gold medal

      Silver medal

      No bronze medals or merit awards are given.

 

      Only the top scoring one-third of total entries in the Michelangelo International Wine Awards will be eligible for medals, and are calculated according to the judges’ final scores. However, where a number of wines qualify for a medal in terms of the medal cut-off point, all wines with that score will be awarded the appropriate medal.

   4. Thirteen trophies will be awarded, which are the following:

Mischa Billing (Sweden)

 

Mischa Billing is a Swedish sommelier and University professor with a long experience of the trade.

She entered the industry as sommelier of Petri Pumpa, at the time then considered the best restaurant in Sweden. Mischa established a branch of the Swedish Sommelier Association in southern Sweden, and eventually became the chairman of the Swedish National Sommelier Association.

As such she started and organized the Swedish Sommeliers Competieion, which has become a regular annual event.

From 1994 to 2000 Mischa had a weekly slot on Swedish National Television, SVT2, focusing on wines and matching food and wine. In 2000 she started working at Grythyttan, the culinary faculty of the University of Örebro. Mischa was instumental in establising a Bachelors degree in Sommellerie at the university, attracting many students each year. She also lectures at the university.

Mischa was elected General Secretary of ASI, the Association de Sommellerie International, as well as being a member of the Technical Committee

She currently is employed as a professor at the University of Örebro, works as a wine writer for various publications and a researcher of how aromas affects your senses. Mischa is involved with technical details such as describing the smell of roses, strawberries and milk for the industry.

Besides wine she has worked with Absolut Vodka to develop how to describe Absolut Vodka.
