The purpose of this thesis is to implement a pre study that treats the supplier base at strategic purchasing at an aftermarket division. The opinion at the aftermarket today is that there are too many suppliers to work with. For that reason they want a better starting point with wider understanding of how the situation looks like. Therefore this will be an investigation regarding the reasons that have affected the supplier base in the past. This will give an understanding of how the purchasing aftermarket division can work preventive against refilling the base in the future.

To get a good picture of how the situation for the company looked like in the past, how it looks today and what can be improved ahead several interviews with persons both at and outside the company was conducted. Literature and research have built up the understanding about the areas of supply chain management, supplier relationships and processes. 

For a more effective work with the supplier base there should be a good understanding for the overall processes through the company. Increased communication will contribute to a more cross-functional thinking were different functions can get involved earlier in the process to influence the choices made.

Syftet med denna rapport är att genomföra en förstudie som behandlar leverantörsbasen hos en inköpsavdelning på eftermarknad. Idag anser man att det är för många leverantörer att arbeta med och vill därför ha en bättre utgångpunkt med en bredare förståelse för hur situationen ser ut. Därför ska det undersökas vilka orsaker som kan ha påverkat den leverantörsbas man har idag och hur man kan arbeta förebyggande mot att den inte skall öka framöver.

För att få en bra bild av hur situationen för företaget sett ut, hur den ser ut idag och vad som kan förbättras framöver användes intervjuer med personer både inom och utanför företaget. Litteratur och forskning har använts för ökad förståelse kring området supply chain management och processers uppbyggnad generellt.

För ett effektivare arbete med leverantörsbasen bör man ha bättre förståelse för processen i det stora hela på företaget. Ökad kommunikation skulle leda till mer divisionsöverskridande tänkande där man involverar fler funktioner tidigare i processen så att de kan vara med och påverka de val som görs.
