2021 (English)In: Rule of Law in the EU: 30 Years After the Fall of the Berlin Wall / [ed] Antonina Bakardjieva Engelbrekt; Andreas Moberg; Joakim Nergelius, Oxford: Hart Publishing Ltd, 2021, p. 75-85Chapter in book (Refereed)
Abstract [en]

The concept of democracy adhered to by the EU in its treaties is clealy a liberal, material one, based on rule of law and human rights. Thus, to talk of an "illiberal" democracy and even imagine that such a thing could ever be part of any kind of  EU agenda, under any circumstances, simply does not make sense.
