How do men experience the social work environment in Swedish restaurants? (English)
Abstract [en]

This paper aims to illustrate how men portray the social work environment within the Swedish restaurant industry. The sex role spillover model was used in the paper as a theoretical framework to create an understanding of why the social work environment is portrayed harshly in the restaurant industry. The study used a qualitative method, more specifically semi-structured interviews to collect empirical data. The interviews were analyzed and interpreted using thematic analysis. The study’s result showed that restaurant employees believe that work is characterized by stress and harsh jargon, but it is with good intentions. The colleagues at work are friends who after a period become family and hence the jargon is accepted.
