Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay is to investigate the social phenomena of stress and find out whichsocial factor that makes women stressed. Our questions are:Which social factors make women stressed? Can these factors explain why women are more stressed than men?We chose a qualitative approach and we made semi-structured interviews. We interviewedfive women who have children. They work as nurses in Örebro.Among the theories we have used are Rosa’s theory about social acceleration, Hirdman’stheory about the man being norm in society and a theory about double labour byFrankenhaeuser. Our conclusion is that women are stressed by social acceleration, lack of time. Double labouralso stresses them and economy to some extent. Working part time is also a contributingcause to stress. All of these factors can explain why women are more stressed than menbecause the factors are gender dependant and that is a consequence of man being the norm insociety.
