The purpose of this thesis was to study and compare similarities and differences between the Swedish and British journalism on the topic of terrorism. News articles from the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet and the British newspaper The Guardian were analyzed. Methods of critical discourse analysis were used to accomplish this. Additionally, theories of orientalism, national identity and the concept of Us and Them have also been used. In the results the articles showed reinforcements of the national identities and a presence of Us and Them through orientalism. Islam and Muslims were often mentioned in association with extremism and terrorism, which creates a negative representation. In another result on the other hand showed that The Guardian represents Islam and Muslims in a more positive way than Svenska Dagbladet.
